If you are a breastfeeding mama like me, you know how timely to whip that boob out for your crying baby, even if you are on the move.
For me, a nursing tank is one stable piece of clothing I can’t live without. It’s quick and easy to access and provides the most coverage of my mid-area, especially while I’m in public.
But buying a full nursing-friendly Wardrop can get expensive in a hurry, which is why I want to share with you a DIY alternative.
They work with any nursing bra, and adding gives you coverage in the midsection.
How to Make Your Own Nursing Tank Tops
I initially discovered the idea from a blog called Breast Feeding Place.
Materials:
- a spaghetti-strap tank top
- a needle
- threads that match the color of the tank top
- scissors
- a seam ripper
Directions:
Step 1:
You can either use the spaghetti-strap tank top you already have or purchase a few pretty inexpensively. Just make sure they are made with stretchy material and fit snugly.
In addition, try to find straps that are placed perpendicularly on the back of the camisole. They should be easy enough to take off.
Step 2:
Carefully use a seam ripper to unstitch the straps on the back of the tank top so they come detached. If you don’t have a seam ripper, you can also use sharp scissors.
Step 3:
Cut the straps about two inches from the front end of the tank.
Step 4:
Create a loop with the remaining length of the strap on the tank and stitch it securely. This will allow the nursing bra to attach to it.
That’s it!
You can now wear the tank over any nursing bra, and the loop can be attached to the clip of the bra on each side.
This is a genius idea! I’ve been pretty much living in these tanks during my nursing months. These make great baby shower gifts if you know any friends who plan to breastfeed.
