I am a huge advocate of babywearing. When my kids were little, I wore both of them just about every single day. Now, my daughter is two-and-a-half and my son is one. I still wear them often, especially when we’re out and about.
Hands down, my favorite carrier is a ring sling. My new favorite ring sling is from Comfy Joey.
I received a beautifully designed ring sling from Comfy Joey’s linen collection. The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the color of the sling.
It’s called Sunset Purple, and it’s a deep, dark eggplant color. It’s really beautiful and easy to match to just about anything I wear.
My favorite thing about this sling is the fabric. Linen is fabulous. It is light and breathable, but also sturdy and strong. It is certainly much sturdier than the cotton slings I own.
It is not stretchy, so it stays very stable on your body and baby doesn’t slip in it, even after being worn for a while. I love looking at it and touching it!
I have worn both my kids on my hip in this sling without a problem. It has a nice long tail, but not long enough to get in the way. It is an excellent size.
My Comfy Joey ring sling is really well-made and has nice stitching.
I like how the fabric fits on my shoulder. It’s easy to spread out over my whole shoulder or bunch a little onto the top of my shoulder. It’s comfortable both ways and doesn’t hurt my back after extended wear, like some other types of carriers do.
Some pros of having a ring sling versus other carriers:
- They’re so simple to use! Once you learn to thread the fabric through the rings, it’s as easy and placing baby inside. They are super adjustable, so you can achieve a perfect fit every single time you wear your baby.
- They’re very portable. Unlike some other carriers, which can be bulky, ring slings can fold or roll up and easily fit into your diaper bag or under your stroller, even in a coat pocket.
- One sling can fit multiple people! This is a huge pro for my husband and me. We have different sized bodies and if we’re using a soft structured carrier like the Ergo, we’ll have to re-adjust the straps each time we switch. Using a ring sling is best for us, because it requires no re-sizing so we can equally share baby-wearing duties.
- Breastfeeding is easy in a ring sling. Once your baby is in the sling as normal, you can just pull on the rings to loosen it slightly, lay your baby down and tighten it again to secure. It’s easy to sit the baby back up when he’s all done, too. And, the long tail on a ring sling can serve as a nursing cover if you choose.
The only con I can find with this sling is that the fabric gets quite wrinkly after being washed. I don’t enjoy ironing. But if you can deal with wrinkles or if you can bust the iron out of the closet every once in a while, it’s not that big of a deal.
