She Stands Alone
OP is a woman who works in a setting that is full of men.
But she joins in the water cooler talk with everyone else, and it’s usually not much of a problem.
He Takes Control
One of the men OP works with, though, always wants to talk about politics.
And he’s pretty forceful about guiding their conversations in that direction.
It Was Business as Usual
So one day recently, OP found herself in a room full of men, and this one guy was again talking about politics as usual.
She Was Fine With It
No surprise, and OP felt fine with the situation.
She’d had many of those types of conversations before and considered it just part of her day.
She Just Wanted to Eat
And besides, OP sort of pulled off to the side and ate her lunch.
She was mostly trying to stay out of the discussion and enjoy her food.
She Couldn’t Look Away
But on this particular day, the political blowhard decided to focus on abortion.
The mention of that word drew OP’s attention, and she couldn’t look away from the trainwreck that followed.
He Had Strong Opinions
OP’s coworker had very definite opinions on abortion, but it wasn’t the typical pro-life or pro-choice argument that often springs from these types of conversations.
He Was Just a Blowhard
Instead, the man went on and on about how women didn’t even know what they were getting into when they signed up for an abortion.
At first, OP thought he was just being ridiculous, but then things got more serious.
It Wasn’t Even Their Choice
OP’s coworker went on to say that most women who had abortions didn’t even really want one.
They were pressured into killing their babies by Planned Parenthood.
She Had to Speak
OP couldn’t let that slide, so she spoke up.
He Was Sadly Mistaken
OP told the man that women typically had to go through counseling.
And the clinics involved were very thorough in making sure the women understood and were doing what they wanted.
How Did She Know?
But OP’s coworker wasn’t backing down.
He asked her how she knew that women weren’t just being rushed through a quick checklist before their abortions.
She Had an Answer
OP had the perfect answer for her coworker, and she couldn’t let the opportunity pass by.
She Had All the Data
So OP told the group of men that when she’d had her abortion, she was very well informed.
The clinic told her about all her options and helped her make an informed decision.
She Knew Her Risks
And, since she had a specific medical condition, the doctors even helped OP understand what risks both a pregnancy and an abortion could pose to her.
They Were Stunned
That sucked all the air out of the room while OP’s coworkers fidgeted nervously and tried to figure out what to say to her.
She Was Out of Line
Finally, the political blowhard told OP that what she said was inappropriate for work.
She should keep those sorts of things to herself.
He Was Dead Wrong
But OP wasn’t in any mood to be scolded, so she reminded the man that he had started the whole abortion conversation.
And what he was saying simply was not true.

That was pretty much the end of the conversation, but one of OP’s work friends approached her later.
He told her what she did was funny, but that it might cause trouble for her at work.
