A teacher in Arizona is in a hell of a lot of trouble after dressing up for Halloween as the devil. Here’s the full story.
“Hail Satan”
A high school teacher in Mesa, Arizona, has been taken out of the classroom after reportedly dressing up as the devil for Halloween and encouraging students to say “Hail Satan.”
Devilishly Delightful
Sophomores at Mesa High School entered their class to find their teacher wearing devil horns and holding a pitchfork.
The teacher then waved the pitchfork over the heads of students and said, “Hail Satan.”
Typical Teenage Response
Reactions from students were said to be varied, with some finding it amusing, while others didn’t appreciate it, and some brushed it off.
Angels and Demons
The teacher involved in the incident explained that they dressed up for Halloween spirit week, following the theme of dynamic duos.
They also mentioned that the teacher in the neighboring classroom was in an angel costume.
Not That Complicated
The teacher defended their actions, saying, “Participating in spirit weeks like this is a way for me to engage with my students and bring fun to my classroom. It’s truly not any more complicated than that.”
Offense Was Taken
One student, Nathaniel Hamlet, on the other hand, felt offended by the teacher’s costume due to his faith.
He shared his concerns with his father, Chris Hamlet, a former Mesa Public School board candidate. Chris reported the incident to the school’s principal.
Christian Concerns
Chris Hamlet expressed his strong feelings about the situation, saying, “I was livid because I am a Christian as well, obviously. What really tipped it over for me is, he kept telling him no… and the teacher kept persisting.”
Demonic Departure
As a result of the incident, Mesa Public Schools decided to place the teacher on administrative leave, and they have not returned to the classroom since.
Costumes Corrupting
Chris Hamlet emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced approach, saying, “If you’re gonna keep the Christian stuff out, then you got to keep the devil-worshiping stuff out, period.”
Angelic Arrival
It seems that Hamlet was unaware that there was a teacher dressed as a biblical angel next door to the classroom in question.
Evil Explanation
A spokesperson for Mesa Public Schools explained the actions taken: “Mesa Public Schools administration was notified of the alleged incident at Mesa High School late Wednesday afternoon after school hours.
Our Human Resources department began the investigation Thursday morning and placed the teacher on paid administrative leave pending the result of the investigation. The investigation remains ongoing.”
Not Getting the Joke
The news of the teacher’s suspension online has been met with ridicule, with one comment, which had hundreds of likes, reading, “Good grief we have pre-schooled up our high schoolers.”
Another such comment said simply, “Another day of right wingers not understanding humor.”
Happy Halloween
By far, the comment with the most upvotes was scathing in its criticism, stating, “Are these people hearing about Halloween for the first time in their life? I’ll bet dollars to donuts this is one of those people who want to put prayer in schools.”
Maleficent Mistake
Another user took offense at the categorization of the teachers’ costumes’ lack of biblical accuracy, stating simply, “It’s not a pitchfork, it’s a trident.”
