Have you ever had a coworker who made your work life a living hell? One who constantly bullied and harassed others yet somehow managed to get away with it?
A Sneaky, Vindictive Coworker
Well, Kara certainly did. She had been dealing with a sneaky and vindictive coworker for far too long, but she finally found a way to get revenge.
A Bad Coworker
Kara had always known that her coworker – let’s call her Jane – was a real piece of work.
From the moment Kara started working at the company, Jane had been there, seemingly since the company’s inception.
She Got Away With Everything
Kara’s boss, who was also Jane’s boss, always seemed to let Jane get away with bullying and harassing everyone in the office.
His One Exception
However, the only time that Kara’s boss would step in was if Jane’s animosity got directed toward him.
Whenever this happened, he would go full-on passive-aggressive, making Jane even more insecure than she already was.
A Miserable Worker
Jane was a miserable person to work with.
If someone brought a mistake she made to her attention, she would go on a rampage, sometimes for an entire day, finding every mistake that the poor soul had made.
An All-Around Bad Egg
But what was worse than her attitude was her sneaky tactics.
She would often not do her job and pawn her work off onto others, claiming that she was busy with trivial tasks or that she had so much on her plate that she couldn’t possibly handle it all.
Kara Was at the End of Her Tether
Kara had had enough of Jane’s antics. She had been keeping a close eye on her, watching her every move, and yesterday, she finally figured out one of Jane’s tactics.
An Urgent Task
Someone needed a letter of on-time payment from their previous provider to have their deposit waived, and one company had a dedicated broker line for them.
They had specifically stated before that they wanted to be emailed for letters of on-time payment and not called on the broker line unless it was an emergency.
Too Much Work for Her
When they pressed Jane about the task that needed the letter of on-time payment, she said that she had emailed the client and said that a conference call was in order.
She Didn’t Follow the Protocol
Several of Kara’s colleagues told her that that was not the proper protocol, but Jane knew this already.
She just didn’t want to send the email because that was too much like work, so she danced around the issue.
Bad Work Priorities
Kara had had enough of Jane’s behavior and called her out on it.
But unfortunately, Jane spent more time arguing than it took for her to send the flipping email!
Even Kara’s boss got involved in the Slack conversation and told Jane to stop arguing and do her job.
But all Jane ever got was a little slap on the wrist.
A Turn for the Worse
That’s when things took a turn for the worse.
Jane proceeded to send Kara a personal Slack message, ripping her a new one and calling her a slur!
But that was just the tip of the iceberg.
She Said What?!
Kara went back through the other Slacks that Jane had sent to her personal channel and found that she had been calling her boss a bald fool, saying she didn’t blame his wife for cheating on his cheap, rude ass, calling his son a piece of work, calling him an elitist idiot, and so much more.
This Was Too Much
Kara knew she had to take action, so she copied all of Jane’s Slacks and sent them to her boss.
She told him that she thought Jane’s language was unprofessional and that she didn’t appreciate being called a slur.
But in reality, Kara wanted him to see the stuff Jane had directed at him.
What She Didn’t Know…
Her boss sent a Slack message saying that he would be a few hours late this morning, but what Kara didn’t know was that he was actually on his way to Jane’s house.
He fired her on the spot and collected all of his office equipment.
As prideful as Jane was, she didn’t tell a soul.
Her Revenge Had Worked
When he returned to work, he set up a Zoom meeting and told everyone that “Negative McGee” was no longer with the company.
It was a petty move, but Kara didn’t give a hoot. She was just glad that Jane was finally out of their lives for good.
Good Riddance!
Kara’s story of revenge may seem petty to some, but it’s a reminder that workplace bullies and those who shirk their responsibilities will eventually get what’s coming to them.
It’s also a lesson that professionalism and respect go a long way in any workplace and that behaving in a manner that’s unprofessional or disrespectful to colleagues and superiors can have serious consequences.
Bullying Is Never OK
By standing up for herself and her colleagues and exposing her coworker’s behavior, Kara showed that she was not willing to tolerate mistreatment, and that she would take action to ensure that the workplace was a respectful and productive environment.
In the end, her actions may have led to a more harmonious workplace and a sense of justice for those who Jane wronged.
