The recent Republican GOP debate on Wednesday, August 23, witnessed a fiery exchange that thrust entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy into the spotlight. Here’s what happened.
The Debate
As the evening unfolded, Ramaswamy found himself at the receiving end of jabs and critiques from political heavyweights, leaving viewers with much to dissect.
Aim At Ramaswamy
In the initial moments of the Fox News debate, both former Vice President Mike Pence and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie took aim at Ramaswamy.
A Rookie
Pence didn’t mince words when he questioned Ramaswamy’s suitability for the role.
“Now it’s not the time for on-the-job training. We don’t need to bring in a rookie,” Pence asserted, drawing attention to Ramaswamy’s lack of experience.
No Need for Inexperienced People
He added, “We don’t need to bring in people with no experience.”
Let’s Have a Real Discussion
Ramaswamy, seemingly unflustered by the early attack, responded with a quip of his own. “Now that everyone’s got their mesmerized prepared slogans out of the way, we can actually have a real discussion now,” he replied.
Climate Change
As the debate shifted to the topic of climate change, Ramaswamy’s stance on the matter raised eyebrows and drew criticism, particularly from Chris Christie.
A Hoax
Ramaswamy boldly declared, “I’m the only person on the stage who isn’t bought and paid for so I can say this: the climate change agenda is a hoax.” His claim prompted a round of boos from the audience.
Christie Made Racist Comments
Christie didn’t miss an opportunity to weigh in, and he did so with a dig at Ramaswamy’s appearance.
Sounds Like ChatGPT
“I’ve had enough. I’ve had enough already tonight, of a guy who sounds like ChatGPT standing up here,” Christie quipped, evoking laughter from the audience.
Skinny Guy With Odd Name
“The last person … [at] these debates who stood in the middle of the stage and said, ‘What’s a skinny guy with an odd last name doing up here?’ is Barack Obama, and I’m afraid we’re dealing with the same type of amateur,” Christie added.
Ramaswamy Replied
Ramaswamy responded by claiming Christie helped Obama get elected as president.
A New Boy in Town
As the debate progressed, Ramaswamy continued to assert his presence on the stage.
Donald Trump’s Criticisms
He seized an opportunity to address Christie’s past criticisms of former President Donald Trump.
“Honest to God, your claim that Donald Trump is motivated by vengeance and grievance would be a lot more credible if your entire campaign wasn’t based on vengeance and grievance against one man,” Ramaswamy said.
Trump Is Low on Polls
“Think of an 8% approval rating in New Jersey. Now he’s running for president and he runs solely on the basis of, oh, ‘let’s get Trump.’ It’s like a savage maniac,” Ramaswamy added.
Trump Is a Lunatic
“He’s like a lunatic, and that’s all he talks about. His poll numbers are very, very low, about 2%,” he concluded.
A Fraud
Several social media users expressed their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “Even if he’s probably a fraud (ironically, very much like Obama), it’s pretty obvious that Ramaswamy stands head and shoulders above the rest of these clowns in terms of intellect.”
Nothing New
Another user added, “To be fair, 99% of the male population is “skinny guys” to Christie.”
