Ramaswamy Accuses ‘LGBTQIA+-Ism’ of Opposing American Values and Way of Life, Condemns Community and Claims ‘Tyranny of the Minority’

Ramaswamy took on issues of LGBTQ and transgender identity during a recent debate. Here’s the story.

Incompatible Ideas

Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential candidate who was the talk of the recent debate in Milwaukee, had harsh words for the LGBTQ community, saying that it “brings together otherwise incompatible ideas about sexual and gender minorities under one group identity.”

Ramaswamy is the son of Indian immigrants, who was born and raised in Ohio and built his fortune in biotech and pharmaceuticals before writing the book titled Woke, Inc in 2012, which put him in a spotlight of Republican politics.

During the interview with the right-wing pundit Tucker Carlson that was streamed on X, formerly Twitter, Ramaswamy said the LGBTQ rights movement’s existence is “perpetuated by ideas that are based in faith rather than facts” because its core premises are irreconcilably “in tension” with each other.

Totally “Weird”

He also said that “most lesbians don’t like gay men and vice versa,” while “trans [identities are] this totally weird separate thing.”

Tyranny

The discussion between Carlson and Ramaswamy started after a clip in which he answered a voter’s question about LGBTQ rights by claiming, “I don’t have a negative view of same-sex couples, but I do have a negative view of a tyranny of the minority.”

Ramaswamy made the comments ahead of the Republican presidential debate during which he rose from the little-known contender to the central figure on stage, as he spoke with confidence.

He responded to questions and barbs from fellow Republican contenders, as the party establishment had to take note.

Opposition to American Vision

Ramaswamy characterized “LGBTQIA+-ism” as part of “a broader vision that defines itself in opposition to the American vision, to the American way of life.”

Idolatry

He also claimed that the pride movement flag is an example of “symbology” and “idolatry” supporting the “religious” beliefs held by LGBTQ people or represented in the LGBTQ rights movement.

He Said “They had to make the trans flag, the upgraded version, the golden idol,” he said about the Progress Pride flag.

Similar to Trump

Unlike some Republican candidates, Ramaswamy doesn’t draw a harsh line between himself and Trump, who is still seen as the biggest contender on the Republican side.

“I’m more similar to Trump in 2015 than Trump today is to Trump in 2015,” Ramaswamy said during the podcast interview with Russell Brand.

A Long-Shot

Still, Ramaswamy is a long shot in the race, even after his impressive performance during the debate.

Despite skipping the event, Trump continues to dominate the polls, even as he has to fend off numerous opponents including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Vice President Mike Pence and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
