Revealing New Book Uncovers President Biden’s Struggle With Fatigue and Age-Related Challenges – Fanning the Debate on His Fitness for Office

It turns out that Former President Donald Trump may have been on to something when he coined the nickname “Sleepy Joe,” as revealed in Franklin Foer’s upcoming book, “The Last Politician: Inside Joe Biden’s White House and the Struggle for America’s Future,” which delves deep into President Biden’s first two years in the White House.

Allegedly, behind closed doors, the President would regularly admit to feeling exhausted and weary.

An excerpt published by The Guardian paints a stunning picture of an aging President grappling with the demands of the highest office.

This isn’t the first time the moniker “Sleepy Joe” has been thrown around. But if Foer’s account is anything to go by, there is some truth to it.

Foer writes, “His advanced years were a hindrance, depriving him of the energy to cast a robust public presence or the ability to easily conjure a name.”

Age-Related Struggles

Foer goes on to state, “It was striking that he took so few morning meetings or presided over so few public events before 10 a.m.

His public persona reflected physical decline and time’s dulling of mental faculties that no pill or exercise regime can resist.”

Public Doubts About Biden’s Fitness for Re-election

As the eldest President in the history of the US, Biden has faced an onslaught of questions regarding his cognitive sharpness. With re-election on the horizon, these age-related concerns are intensifying, making some Americans skeptical of his capability to serve another term.

A recent poll by the Associated Press-NORC revealed that an overwhelming 77% of Americans believe Biden might be too old to govern effectively if re-elected.

Bipartisan Worries

Concerns over Biden’s age aren’t partisan, with both Republicans and Democrats sharing worries about the octogenarian leader’s capacity. While President Biden has publicly acknowledged age as a “legitimate concern,” behind the scenes, he’s reportedly expressed frustration over the constant media focus on the topic.

Several incidents have further fueled the age-related speculations. In a cringe-worthy misstep, the President mistakenly acknowledged Rep. Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) in September 2022, failing to recall her unfortunate death in a car crash weeks prior. Physical gaffes haven’t been kind, either. A fall at the Air Force Academy and a bump to the head while boarding Marine One furthered public concerns.

The Complexity of Age

However, Foer suggests that such errors aren’t necessarily age-related, crediting some to Biden’s “indiscipline and indecision,” traits he’s frequently exhibited over his near five-decade-long political journey.

But it’s not all criticism. Foer commends Biden’s handling of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, praising his “wartime leadership” and the comfort and assurance he provided as the “West’s father figure, whom foreign leaders could call for advice and look to for assurance.” In these dire times, Biden’s experience seemed invaluable.

Donald Trump Isn’t Much Younger

While Republican adversaries harp on Biden’s age, it’s worth noting the GOP frontrunner, Donald Trump, isn’t much younger at 77. Nonetheless, public polls indicate that Biden’s age is more of a concern to voters than Trump’s, as only 51% of people believe Trump’s age could pose a problem if he were to reclaim the presidency.

He Has Vast Political Experience

Foer also acknowledges Biden’s vast political experience. Having won his US Senate seat back in 1972, chaired significant Senate committees, and served as Vice President under Barack Obama, Biden possesses an unmatched political legacy. This vast experience, Foer argues, equips him with unique strengths to navigate the complexities of the presidency.

Governing for the “Short Term”

Foer also highlights Biden’s attempts to address long-term issues such as the Inflation Reduction Act and climate change initiatives.

This, in his view, highlights that despite the age-related criticisms, Biden isn’t merely governing for the “short term.”

“Sleepy Joe” or a Seasoned Statesman

As the political scene buzzes with speculation, “The Last Politician” promises to unveil many more secrets of Biden’s presidency. The nation now waits with bated breath for September 5th, the book’s release date, which might further shape public opinion in the lead-up to the next elections.

Whether one sees Biden as “Sleepy Joe” or a seasoned statesman, the book promises to provide readers with a deeper understanding.
