U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said she is ready to serve as president if the need arises, although she dismissed the notion that Joe Biden is too old to run for re-election.
Harris Is the First Female Vice President
Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history. She is also the first African-American and first Asian-American vice president.
America’s Commander-in-Chief, If Biden Can’t Serve
When asked if she was prepared to serve as America’s commander-in-chief if Biden became unable to carry out his duties during a recent interview with CBS’s Face the Nation, Harris said: “Yes, I am, if necessary.”
Joe Biden Is Going to Be Fine
“But Joe Biden is going to be fine,” Harris said. “And let me tell you something: I work with Joe Biden every day.”
Biden Is the Oldest Serving U.S. President
Biden is already the oldest serving president of the United States and if he were to be reelected into office he would be 86 at the end of his second term.
The First Woman to Serve as U.S. President
Harris, who would become the first woman to serve as U.S. president if Biden could not complete his term, told ‘Face the Nation’ that it would not be a new experience for her.
There’s Nothing New About It
Harris talked about how she was the first woman elected as district attorney of San Francisco and as attorney general of California.
“I represented one in eight Americans [As a US senator for California,]” before becoming the country’s first-ever female vice president.
“Listen, this is not new,” she said. “There’s nothing new about that.”
Americans Think Biden Is Too Old
More than two-thirds of the American public think Biden is too old for a second term, and the majority want to see other Democratic candidates enter the contest, according to recent polls.
Republicans Seize the Opportunity
As Biden’s senior episodes continue to draw scrutiny, some Republicans have sought to portray Harris’ presidency as a scary prospect citing her lack of experience as one of the top concerns.
Harris Responds
In response to Republican criticisms, Harris pointed out that there have been lower crime rates, declining inflation, and relatively calmer conditions at the US-Mexico border during the Democratic administration’s third year in office, which is more than halfway through their term.
They Feel the Need to Attack
“They feel the need to attack because they’re scared that we will win based on the merit of the work that Joe Biden and I, and our administration, has done,” Harris said.
Low Approval Rating
According to a recent CNN poll, the U.S. president’s job approval rating stands significantly below water, with only 39 percent of voters expressing approval of his performance.
Harris Is Also Not Doing Well
Harris, who has also been facing low poll numbers, is currently attempting a political comeback ahead of the 2024 election, as she is trying to reshape her image in the eyes of the voters.
Her tenure as vice president has been marred by gaffes, missteps and awkward performances where she repetitively explained simple concepts in awkward sentences with critics often calling it “a word salad.”
Harris Hosts an Event Celebrating 50 Years of Hip-Hop
Harris commemorated the 50-year impact of hip-hop on American arts and culture at her residence last weekend.
During the event, she paid tribute to the genre’s significant Black roots as the Democratic ticket aims to maintain the support of African-American voters in their 2024 reelection campaign.
US Vice President Has Struggled to Define Her Role
As for the 2024 presidential election, some have questioned whether Harris adds anything to the presidential ticket, as she has been struggling to define her role through much of her tenure in the White House.
