According to US prosecutors, Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, has been indicted on federal gun charges following the breakdown of plea deal negotiations.
Providing False Information
The indictment alleges that Hunter Biden provided false information about his drug use when purchasing a firearm from a gun shop in Wilmington, Delaware, in October 2018.
He Was Addicted to Crack
During that period, Hunter Biden has admitted to struggling with addiction to crack cocaine.
Said He Wasn’t a Drug User
The charges against him include two counts of making false statements for inaccurately indicating that he was not a drug user and for unlawfully possessing the firearm while being a drug user.
He Had a Firearm While Addicted to Drugs
A third count is related to possessing a firearm as a drug user.
If convicted, two of the counts carry potential sentences of up to 10 years in prison, while the third count carries a maximum sentence of up to five years.
First Time in History
This marks the first instance of a sitting president’s child facing criminal prosecution.
Can Biden Be Impeached?
This indictment follows the announcement of an impeachment inquiry by Republican congressmen regarding alleged, unsubstantiated connections between the Democratic president and his son’s business dealings.

Previously, a plea deal involving Hunter Biden included gun possession charges along with guilty pleas for misdemeanor tax offenses.
