His Daughter Is a Devout Christian
The original poster (OP) is the 55-year-old father of a 22-year-old.
OP’s ex-wife and his daughter are extremely devout Baptists Christians belonging to the Independent Fundamental Baptist church.
But He Is an Atheist
Even though OP is an atheist, he was once religious when he was in his early thirties for a brief period after meeting his ex-wife at the IFB church.
He Left the Church
But after a few years, he left the church, primarily due to his growing dissatisfaction with the regulations and limitations placed on people, as well as its position on LGBT matters. OP’s brother is gay.
Once OP and his wife split, he quit the church for good.
The Daughter Views Her Father as “Unsaved”
OP says although he knows his daughter loves him, she views OP as “unsaved” and adheres to all of her mother’s and her church’s religious convictions.
OP’s ex-wife, who was granted sole custody, encouraged her faith.
The Daughter Is Proud of Her Faith
The daughter, who is very proud of this decision, has made the promise to postpone having sex until after marriage.
She participates in a “purity club” for women and girls at her church, which exhorts them to remain “pure” until marriage. A 30-year-old woman who is still a virgin leads this group.
According to OP’s daughter, she says she is “holding out for the right man.”
The Daughter Bragged About Her Virgin Role Model
The head of her club was brought up by his daughter the other day, and she went on and on about how much she admires and idolizes her.
She was highlighting how much she respected her for “resisting temptation” and putting God’s will above her own.
She claimed that she looks up to her as a strong role model and prays that she would possess the moral strength to maintain her purity.
He Told Her What He Thought
OP voiced his disagreement. He believes the club leader isn’t a virgin because she chose to be, but because she has other issues.
OP remarked that it was conceivable that she might possess an unpleasant or toxic personality that discourages guys from dating her, or that she might be very entitled or choosy when it comes to men, with high expectations and a princess mentality, or that she might be excessively prudish.
A Troubling Double Standard?
OP brought up the gender divide to his daughter, asking why a 30-year-old woman should get so much respect and admiration just because she’s a virgin while a 30-year-old man who is a virgin would be publicly criticized by others as a loser.
His Daughter Became Angry
OP’s daughter became furious! She called her father “disrespectful” and “misogynistic.”
She Was Furious!
OP responded to her by asking why, as opposed to simply abstaining from sex, she doesn’t show the same level of respect and admiration to the women in her religious community who work to improve society as a whole.
She became even angrier and claimed that OP was simply resentful and jealous, because girls like her friend “would never go for a guy like [him] in a million years.”
She left immediately afterwards.
He Was Right About the Double Standard
Now OP feels bad about what happened. He took to Reddit to ask if he was wrong for what he did. Redditors were split in their views with some supporting OP while others saying that OP was in the wrong.
