A young woman had Redditors calling their lawyers when she told her parents they ruined her life. They also pretty much gave that life to her sister. Here is the full story.
She’s Ready to Move On
OP is an 18-year-old woman who is finishing up high school and making big plans for her future.
A Dream Come True
The great news for OP is that she got accepted into her dream college.
It’s on the other side of the state and is just perfect for her.
She Took Care of Everything
And even better, when OP’s grandmother died 8 years ago, she left enough money to pay for her grandkids’ college expenses.
She Had Conditions
OP’s grandmother’s very generous last gift came with a few strings attached, though.
They Had to Behave
In particular, OP and the rest of the grandkids couldn’t get arrested, get pregnant, get anyone else pregnant, or do drugs.
She Was Focused
All of that was pretty easy for OP, and the college money kept her focused all through high school.
She Was Different
But that wasn’t the case for OP’s sister, who is now 23 years old.
She Got in Trouble
When she was a sophomore in high school, OP’s sister got pregnant. According to her grandmother’s wishes, that should have voided her college money.
They Called the Shots
But the grandmother had put the money in accounts that OP’s parents controlled.
They Cut Her Some Slack
OP’s parents didn’t want her sister’s future to be completely altered, so they agreed she could still use the college money as long as she kept her grades up and didn’t have another baby.
She Made It Through
So through the rest of high school and then college, OP’s parents helped her sister raise the baby.
She ended up with about $2000 in debt when she graduated.
It Was a Bargain
OP thought that was a pretty small amount and figured that her grandmother’s college money plus her parents’ help made all the difference.
She Had Other Ideas
But after OP got into her dream school, her mom kept trying to convince her to go somewhere closer. And cheaper.
Mom Wanted Her to Save Money
Wouldn’t it be great to just live at home and save all that room and board money?
That was the pitch OP’s mom made to her.

That definitely wasn’t what OP wanted, but her mom kept pushing.
She Wanted the Truth
Finally, OP had enough and she demanded to know why her mom was trying so hard to dash her dreams.
They Spent Her Money
Cornered, OP’s mom fessed up. She and OP’s dad had spent all her college money helping her sister raise the baby and get through college.
They Ruined Her Life
OP was devastated by that news and blew up at her mother.
She said her parents ruined her life so they could take care of the kid who did everything wrong.

OP stormed out of the house but later found out a few even more shocking details.
She Slept Around
First, her sister didn’t even know who her baby’s dad was.
OP, meanwhile, had a steady boyfriend but never had sex with him because she didn’t want to blow her college fund.
They Could Have Helped Her
And then OP found out that there had been money left over after her sister graduated from college.
Instead of giving that money to OP for school, they bought her sister a car.

Finally, the parents told their older daughter not to tell OP that they raided her college fund, even after graduation.

Furious about the whole situation, OP went to a lawyer, who told her she might have a strong case to go after her parents for repayment.

And OP also told her aunt what her parents did to her. That aunt called them out, but they told her they weren’t sorry and would do it all over again.
