A Tricky Situation

While she thought she was in the right at first, she began to second guess the decision. So, who was right, and who was wrong?
Busy Little Cul-De-Sac
Kaitlyn and Mark lived in a close-knit cul-de-sac, and while they were mostly happy with it, there was one issue: everyone seemed to have their nose in one another’s business.
This was especially true when it came to their neighbor, Maddie.
Neighborhood Babysitting Services
Maddie was a bit of a wayward mother, according to Kaitlyn. She had six young children, and often let them wander through the neighborhood unsupervised.
To make matters worse, she had a habit of talking her neighbors into babysitting them every other weekend.
Impromptu Babysitting Weekend
One Friday, Maddie appeared on Kaitlyn’s doorstep with her six children in tow and hurriedly told Kaitlyn she would be back on Sunday to pick them up.
Kaitlyn refused and explained that she wasn’t able to babysit them, but their mother was already halfway down the stairs, rushing to her cab that was waiting in the streets.
10 Minutes
Kaitlyn was understandably livid. She didn’t have the time or desire to look after six children who weren’t hers, so the furious woman sent Maddie a text.
She told her if she didn’t pick them up in 10 minutes, she would be calling Child Services to pick them up for her.
Maddie’s Second Chance
After calling her three times, Maddie eventually answered and explained that she was already out of the city, but if she didn’t want to watch the kids, she could send them across the road to Jennifer, an elderly neighbor with health issues.
Kaitlyn told her again that she had 10 minutes to pick up her kids or she would have to pick them up from the local council.
Child Services Arrive
Maddie swore at her a few times and hung up the phone, sending Kaitlyn into a spiral of anger.
She called Child Services, and they arrived with the police to pick up the children and investigate the incident. She also sent a video of the pickup to her thoughtless neighbor.
The Problems Begin
And that’s when the real problems began. When Kaitlyn’s husband Mark got home from work and discovered what happened, he lost it.
Mark had grown up in foster care, and when he heard what his wife had done, he was disgusted.
Other Alternatives
He called her a “cow” for calling Child Services and told her she should have never opened the door or otherwise should have sent the children to Jennifer, the other neighbor.
Kaitlyn insisted that she could never have lived down the shame of dropping six children on an elderly woman’s doorstep. But Mark wasn’t having it.
“It’s on Your Head”
Then Mark told her something that really had her rethinking her actions. He explained some terrible experiences that he and others he knew had experienced while in foster care.
He told her that if anything happened to those six children, it would be on her head.
A Disturbing Conversation
Kaitlyn was shaken by their fight and the idea that she had condemned her neighbor’s children to something terrible.
She began to wonder if she should contact Child Service and tell them it was all one giant misunderstanding. But she wanted some extra advice first.

“You did everything right. I have a baby and what kind of parent leaves a literal baby with a neighbor for days, without preparing food, clothes, and a freaking timeline and CONSENT,” one Redditor emphatically replied.
“You did those kids a favor. Your husband should go find a therapist and apologize profusely.”
Preying on the Goodness of Others
“She is literally guilting people into taking care of her kids by preying on the goodness of people hoping they care more about her kid’s well-being than she does,” another said.
“You 100% did the right thing[…]The chances of something bad happening to them living with her is ridiculously high and they are better off with child services.”
A General Consensus
Despite the drama that unfolded, most agreed that Kaitlyn made the right decision.
There was no justification for her reckless neighbor dumping her children on unexpecting people, and it seemed her husband was letting his past blind him to what had really happened.
