They’ve Been Together for 8 Years
The Original Poster (OP) is a 29-year-old who has been with her 32-year-old boyfriend for 8 years. They work together at the same company.
She Had Travel Plans
OP was planning to travel to a few states and see her mother and she has no problems with her partner traveling too.
Unexpected Emergency
However, her preparations for the trip were put on hold as she had to have emergency surgery.
Her Partner’s Work Trip
Her partner was planning to leave on his work trip, but that’s when the problem started. He decided to go on the trip instead of staying with OP and taking her to the ER.
He Decided to Go
He prioritized going out with his friend on the work trip saying that as they had pre-booked the seats, they would lose money.
She Is in Pain
In the meantime, OP was blacking out and throwing up in severe pain.
He Tells His Friends to Look After Her
OP’s partner asked their friends to look after OP for the weekend so he could still go away. He insisted he’d drive back in 6 hours if there was any emergency.
She Doesn’t Like It
But OP didn’t like this idea. She said that because their friends have young children and are likely to have plans of their own, she did not want their friends to “look after” her.
She didn’t want to interfere with their lives or schedules at the last minute.
She Preferred to Stay Alone
OP said that it would be more convenient for her to stay alone as she doesn’t have kids and because her work schedules are simpler.
He Is the Only Close Family Member
OP says that her mother cannot travel since she is so ill, and because her father is not in the country, she really has no close family members but her partner.
She Needs Him
She requires his presence because she’s unable to even bend over, pick up anything that is heavy, or even stand for extended periods.
OP said they had a disagreement regarding the issue and her partner said that OP wasn’t taking his needs into account for the trip.
He Went on the Trip Anyway
Ultimately, OP said that she decided to just let him go on the trip as he was fighting so hard for it.
She Regrets It
But deep inside, OP says she doesn’t like what her partner did and she is wondering if she was wrong for wanting him to stay.
She Thinks She Was Wrong
OP also mentioned that before anyone speculates that her partner has met someone new or that he is having an affair over the weekend, she is positive that it is not true.
She knows it really was a work event because they both work for the same company.

Another Reddit user wrote that she had the same emergency surgery in 2017 and her ex and she were kind of on and off for 5 years, and when she had the emergency, they were in an “off” period.
