A man took to Reddit to find out if he’d been a jerk when he told his wife he was upset that she wouldn’t allow his friends over.
He’d Been Looking Forward to This
Chad had been looking forward to his Saturday plans with his friends all week.
It was a much-needed break from the daily routine of caring for his newborn son and supporting his wife, who had given birth just six weeks ago.
A Fun Day
Chad had arranged to meet his friends at a nearby gym and then head over to one of their houses to play games and hang out.
He was excited to spend some time with his buddies and unwind after a stressful week.
But It Didn’t Go to Plan
However, things took an unexpected turn when Chad’s wife called him and asked him to come home because a bump on her skin had become more painful.
Her Wife’s Hardships
She was concerned about taking care of the baby alone when it was painful for her to stand and walk at this point.
Chad was disappointed but understood the situation and left his friend’s house to go home and help his wife.
He Thought This Was a Good Compromise
On the ride home, Chad suggested to his wife that he could bring his friends over to their house instead.
He thought this would be a good compromise, as he could still help his wife with the baby whenever she needed him, and he could also spend time with his friends.
But His Wife Didn’t Want His Friends Over
However, his wife was not keen on the idea and said she didn’t want people over.
So He Took His Frustration Out on Her!
When Chad arrived home, he was feeling frustrated and upset. He had been looking forward to spending time with his friends all week, and now it seemed like his plans had been ruined.
He laid down next to his wife, and after 15 minutes of silence, he asked himself out loud, “Now what am I gonna do for the rest of the day?”
His wife immediately started crying and asked if he was seriously mad.
He Told Her the Truth
Chad admitted that he was angry, not because his wife had asked him to come home, but because she wouldn’t let him have his friends over.
He couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t allow it, as his friends would be out in the living room the whole time, and it was not like she was going to be leaving the bedroom anyway since it hurt for her to walk.
Chad believed that he could be there for his wife when she needed him and still be able to spend time with his friends.
She Wanted His Support, Not His Friends
However, his wife disagreed. She said that she needed moral support, and Chad wouldn’t be able to provide that if his friends were over.
She also thought that his priorities were all wrong.
He Didn’t Understand the Problem
Chad argued that his wife came before his friends, but he didn’t see why he couldn’t do both.
He believed that he could help his wife whenever she needed him and then go out into the living room to see his friends when she didn’t. This way, they could both be happy.
Was He a Jerk?
Chad’s wife didn’t see it that way, and the argument escalated. She took ibuprofen and felt no pain at all until the next day.
Chad was left feeling frustrated and upset. He didn’t think he had done anything wrong, but his wife was clearly upset with him.
So, he took to Reddit to find out if he was at fault.
The Answer Was Obvious
The answer was a resounding yes. Commenters on Reddit called Chad out on his selfish behavior.
They pointed out that he had a six-week-old child at home and a wife who was still recovering from childbirth.
He Was Neglecting His Responsibilities
His job should have been to make their lives easier, not harder.
Chad’s job was to take care of his child and his wife, not play games with his friends. It was his responsibility, not a favor he was doing for them.
Chad was being selfish by putting his own wants above his family’s needs.
They Thought He Was Ridiculous
Moreover, people on Reddit laughed at Chad’s end comment on his post, which said, “Please don’t leave negative comments about my wife being a baby or anything.”
They thought it was hilarious that he assumed people would perceive his wife as “being a baby” or that his post would make her “look bad.”
They thought he should be more concerned about his wife’s health than his friends’ game.
He Was Being Selfish
Chad’s behavior was unacceptable. He was being selfish, immature, and inconsiderate.
He should have realized that his family’s needs came before his own wants.
He should have stayed home with his wife and child, helping her in any way he could, instead of going out to play games with his friends.
He Needs to Re-Evaluate His Priorities
His behavior showed a lack of empathy and a lack of understanding of what his wife was going through.
He was more concerned about his own entertainment than the well-being of his family.
A Common Story
Chad’s behavior is not uncommon. Many men, especially those who have not experienced childbirth, often do not understand the physical and emotional toll it takes on women.
They may see their wives as being “dramatic” or “overreacting” when they complain of pain or discomfort.
They may believe that their own wants are more important than their family’s needs.
Postpartum Women Need Your Support
This type of behavior is unacceptable, and it is essential for men to understand the importance of supporting their wives during this time.
