A far-left political group funded by liberal billionaire George Soros has ignited a debate by running a radio ad in Kentucky that targets Attorney General Daniel Cameron, a Black Republican, with disparaging language likening him to an “Uncle Tom.” Here’s the full story.
The Ad
Black Voters Matter Action PAC, an organization that has received significant funding from Soros’ super-PAC, is behind the controversial radio ad that has been broadcast on a local R&B station in Jeffersontown, Kentucky.
All Skinfolk Ain’t Kinfolk
The ad, explicitly referring to Cameron as “Uncle Daniel Cameron,” accuses him of betraying his race by declaring, “All skinfolk ain’t kinfolk.”
The contentious radio ad begins with the phrase, “What’s up Kentucky? It’s election time, and all skinfolk ain’t kinfolk.”
The Criticism
It goes on to criticize Cameron for his stance on racial justice, healthcare, and reproductive rights, painting him as a threat to the progress made on these fronts.
Breonna Taylor Case
The ad specifically references Cameron’s handling of the Breonna Taylor case, a controversial decision that sparked nationwide protests.
This Is Not the First Time
Daniel Cameron has faced these types of racialized attacks throughout his political career.
In addition to the recent radio ad, Cameron pointed to a cartoon published in a liberal newspaper earlier this year that depicted him in a racially insensitive manner.
You Can’t Be Black and Conservative
Cameron, who has repeatedly stood up to the national Democratic establishment and received criticism for his conservative views, addressed the controversy.
In a statement, he said, “I believe here in Kentucky you shouldn’t be judged by the color of your skin but by the content of your character.
The same cannot be said of Joe Biden, out-of-state, radical left interest groups, and the national Democrat Party, who think you can’t be Black and conservative.”
Racist Attacks
“I never faced racism or discrimination while growing up or working in Kentucky until I decided to stand up to the national Democrat establishment.
I don’t support their policies, so the Left attacks me for my skin color. These racist attacks have been happening for years, and the media has either enabled or ignored them,” he added.
The Response
Talking to Fox Digital, Governor Andy Beshear’s campaign responded to Cameron’s call for condemnation of the ad by pointing to its origins in “an African American-led PAC,” suggesting that Black Voters Matter Action PAC should provide its own response.
The YouTube Video
In a YouTube video on Saturday, Black Star Network’s Roland Martin interviewed Cliff Albright, co-founder of Black Voters Matter Action PAC, who defended the controversial ad and reiterated the group’s stance.
Uncle Tom
Albright argued that they did not explicitly call Cameron an “Uncle Tom” in the ad and said that doing so might actually be an insult to the historical figure.
Threat to the Black Community
He said, “It’s issue, after issue, after issue where he has shown himself to be just as much of a threat to the Black community as the staunches (sic) White supremacists.
You don’t have to be White to pursue and reinforce White supremacist policies. As we said in the ad, all skinfolk ain’t kinfolk.”
Using “Disgusting” Language
Cameron’s campaign vehemently rejected these arguments and defended the attorney general’s views.
They accused the ad and Albright’s comments of using “disgusting” language and likening mainstream Republican views to White supremacy.
“So if You’re Black You Can’t Be Conservative?”
Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “So if you’re black you can’t be conservative? The world has gone nuts.”
Dirty Democrat Money
Another user added, “Why does Soros have so much control here in the United States? Soros = dirty Democrat money and trouble for America.”
A third user commented, “Democrats know who their master is, the rich white plantation owner Soros. Bow down to your master, Dems.”
