A groom-to-be took a lot of flak from Redditors when he revealed how he planned to fund his dream wedding. It seems ice sculptures are thicker than blood! Here is the full story.
They Have Big Plans
OP is a 39-year-old man who is planning a wedding with his 38-year-old fiance.
Their dream is to have the ceremony at a winery in another state.
They Deserve It
And since OP and his bride-to-be both plan to get married just one time, they think they deserve this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
They’re Over Their Heads
The problem is, while OP and his fiance have caviar tastes, their budget has been lurking in the “nice piece of salmon” range.
They’re Running Out of Town
They have been saving hard, but OP admits it looks like they might fall short of their ambitious wedding goals.
Dad Saved the Day
At least that was the case until OP’s father passed away a few months ago.
It Was a Real Treasure
OP is the oldest boy in his family, and there is a long-standing tradition of passing down a particular heirloom to the first-born son.
So when his dad died, the treasure came to OP.
He Wants the Cash
The thing is, while OP thinks the item is nice and all, he has no interest in actually owning it.
He’d much rather sell it and get the cash.
Perfect Timing
And with the wedding bearing down on him, that’s exactly what OP and his fiance decided to do.
He Thought It Was His
But OP’s 34-year-old brother is a history buff and has always loved the family heirloom.
He also thought his dad would actually leave it to him.
He Was the Only Hope
That’s because OP does not plan to have kids, while his brother already does.
The only way to continue the tradition was for the heirloom to go to the bro.
But He Was Jilted
So when the family read the older man’s will, OP’s brother was pretty upset that he missed out on the cherished relic.
He Still Had a Chance
OP thinks his brother thought either he or his kids would still get the heirloom when OP eventually died, though.
He Flipped His Lid
So it wasn’t too surprising that OP’s brother flipped his lid when he found out that the heirloom was going to be used to finance the wedding.
He Pulled Out Completely
OP’s brother was also slated to be his best man, but he pulled out of the wedding completely when he found out about OP’s plans.
He’s All Alone
And the brother also convinced OP’s uncle and cousins to sit out the wedding, too.
With both of his parents gone, OP won’t have any of his family at the wedding.
It’s His, Fair and Square
OP thinks that he owns the heirloom outright and should be able to do whatever he wants with it.
It’s Just Not Fair
He knows that his brother was counting on one day inheriting the piece, but OP doesn’t think it’s a fair expectation.
It’s What Dad Wanted
Their dad left the heirloom to OP, and he is free to do with it what he wants.
Could They All Be Wrong?
Still, OP doesn’t want to be alone at his wedding, and he’s surprised that the rest of his family pulled out. It makes him wonder if he’s wrong somehow.
He’s Crazy Wrong on This One
Redditors were quick to set OP straight and tell him that he was wrong all along the way.
They think he’s cold, selfish, and childish for even considering selling his family heirloom to supercharge his wedding.
Many of them also call out OP not being able to afford a wedding on his own since he and his wife-to-be both have careers and are single. Commenters think they should have no trouble paying for their own ceremony.
