“She’s Just Not That Smart”: Elon Musk Slams AOC Over ‘Inaccurate’ Migrant Crisis Comparison

Renowned entrepreneur Elon Musk has once again found himself at odds with Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, taking aim at her intellect after she drew a controversial comparison between the current migrant situation in New York City and historical immigration via Ellis Island.

It Started With Her IG Video

In a video shared on her Instagram account, Ocasio-Cortez sought to minimize the significance of the current influx of migrants into New York City by referencing historical immigration patterns.

She Says the Numbers Now Are Nothing

She said, “The numbers—when it comes to people coming to New York City today — are nothing, I’m telling you, nothing, compared to the daily amounts of people that we saw coming in through Ellis Island in the first half of [last] century.”

She Provided Historical Context

She mentioned the historical context by saying that “more than 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954.”

Her comments were met with a swift backlash on social media platforms, including X, a platform owned by Musk (formerly known as Twitter).

Conservative commentator Ashley St. Clair criticized Ocasio-Cortez’s comparison between legal and illegal immigration.

St. Clair’s tweet pointed out that equating legal immigration through Ellis Island with the current influx of over 3 million undocumented migrants crossing the border and costing New York City approximately $1 billion to house them in hotels was an inaccurate comparison.

Elon Musk, responding to St. Clair’s post, echoed her critique by stating, “She’s just not that smart,” in reference to Ocasio-Cortez’s commentary.

This Isn’t the First Time They’ve Butt Heads

Notably, this is not the first time Musk has engaged in public exchanges with Ocasio-Cortez on social media.

Musk Thought She Was Talking to Him

In a previous interaction, Ocasio-Cortez had tweeted about a billionaire with an ego problem, to which Musk humorously responded, suggesting that she might be referring to him.

‘Stop Hitting on Me’

Musk playfully quipped, “Stop hitting on me, I’m really shy,” to which Ocasio-Cortez responded, “I was talking about Zuckerberg but ok.”

Hundreds of Thousands of Migrants in NYC

The severity of the current migrant situation in New York City cannot be understated, with over 116,000 undocumented migrants from Mexico seeking asylum since last April.

Many Are in Local Hotels

Nearly half of these individuals have found shelter within the city’s existing systems, while others have been placed in local hotels.

Mayor Says It Will Cost Billions

Mayor Eric Adams has projected a staggering $12 billion expenditure over the next three years to provide food and shelter for these migrants, putting immense financial strain on the city.

She Says It’s Because of Venezuela

Ocasio-Cortez, however, has attributed a portion of the migrant crisis to U.S. sanctions against Venezuela.

Sanctions Were a Large Part of the Surge

She said, “U.S. sanctions that were originally authored by Marco Rubio… certainly took a large part in the driving of populations to our southern border,” referring to the Republican Florida senator.

Critics Say This Shifts the Blame

This perspective, which shifts blame to U.S. policy rather than addressing the immediate challenges at hand, aligns with a consistent pattern in Ocasio-Cortez’s rhetoric.

Not Coming Up With Practical Solutions

Critics argue that this approach avoids accountability and practical solutions for the pressing crisis confronting New York City.
