Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made headlines with his stance against funding COVID-19 booster vaccines if he becomes the president. Here’s the full story.
The Interview

In a recent interview with ABC News, DeSantis not only addressed his opposition to booster shots but also outlined his broader perspective on pandemic policies and government institutions.
DeSantis’ Stance on Shots

The interview took place as Governor DeSantis was introducing his suggested presidential energy policy at an oil rig in Midland, Texas.
ABC News’ Linsey Davis asked, “As governor of Florida, you’ve told residents who are under 65 don’t get the boosters. As president, would that be your policy – no more shots?”
Not Gonna Fund Them

DeSantis replied, “Well, certainly we’re not gonna fund them.”
He went on to express skepticism about the scientific evidence supporting booster shots.
Not Studied Long Enough

He said, “I think that Biden is spending billions and billions of dollars on these – so they’ve done studies. They have not demonstrated the benefit of the boosters. I think they did studies on mice for Pfizer. Moderna did do 50 humans, but you had one medically significant event that required a physician attendant out of the 50. And so the question is – are these things not studied long enough…”
How Many Trust CDC?

The Florida governor recalled early claims from the CDC that masks would effectively prevent COVID-19 and that mRNA vaccines would guarantee immunity.
He said “How many trust CDC at this point? And I was somebody five years ago, if you would have said CDC says this that would have carried a lot of weight for me. I was in the trenches during COVID. They were citing flimsy studies saying that masks will stop COVID, they were citing flimsy studies about the mRNA shots originally.”
That Is Not True

“Remember they said, the CDC director said if you take these shots, you will not get COVID. That is not true. We know it’s not true,” he added.
COVID Policies

DeSantis emphasized his commitment to accountability, saying, “We’re gonna have a reckoning about all these COVID policies.”
Hold People Accountable

He added, “We’re gonna hold people accountable who got it wrong, people that clung to the lockdowns, people that clung to the school closures. How is it that we had kids locked out of school in this country for over a year in certain jurisdictions? That was not scientifically valid.”
Advised Against COVID-19 Booster Shots

Also, during a recent roundtable discussion hosted by DeSantis, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo advised against COVID-19 booster shots for healthy adults under 65.
Human Beings Have Some Degree of Immunity

Ladapo said, “With the amount of immunity that’s in the community, with virtually every walking human being having some degree of immunity, and with the questions we have about safety and about effectiveness, especially about safety, my judgment is that it’s not a good decision for young people and for people who are not at high risk at this point in the pandemic.”
The FDA and CDC Recommends COVID-19 Vaccines

However, contrary to DeSantis’ position, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the CDC jointly recommended updated COVID-19 vaccines for everyone aged 6 months and older on September 12.
Importance of Vaccination

Their guidance explained the importance of vaccination in protecting against severe illness during the upcoming fall and winter months.
The Risk of Long COVID

CDC Director Mandy Cohen further encouraged the public to get the new vaccines, highlighting the risk of long COVID across all age groups.
Twitter Users Expressed Their Views

Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “You could not be more depraved, unsympathetic, and unresponsive to the health and needs of the people in this country.”
How Did He Get Elected?

Another user added, “It is comforting to me that this man has so little personality he will never be President. It concerns me though that he was elected Governor of Florida with these positions.”
They Only Care About Power

A third user commented, “Of course, he wouldn’t …. Republicans don’t do anything for the betterment of humanity …. They only care about what’s going to get them to power and stay in power.”
