Former New Jersey Governor and 2024 GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie recently took a stand against former President Donald Trump’s controversial praise for a terrorist organization. Here’s the full story.
The Interview
In a candid interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Christie expressed his deep concern about the apparent indifference among some Republicans regarding Trump’s comments on the situation in the Middle East.
Trump’s Comment
Christie’s critique centered on the fact that Trump, in a recent statement, described Hezbollah, a militant group linked to Iran with a well-established history of targeting civilians worldwide, as “very smart.”
The Backlash
This remark understandably triggered a backlash from Christie and other critics who found such praise deeply troubling.
During the interview, Blitzer asked Christie, “You slammed Trump for these comments, accusing him of ‘praising murderers.’ Why do you think so many Republicans seem untroubled by Trump’s comments?”
Trump Is a Fool
Christie replied, “You know, I don’t know that that’s true. I think there might be a lot of Republicans who are troubled by his comments.”
“Wolf, let’s make it clear he’s a fool. He’s a fool. Only a fool wouldn’t make those kinds of comments,” Christie added.
Own Personal Interests
Christie also pointed out that Trump consistently frames his comments within the context of his own personal interests and grievances.
Trump Doesn’t Care About the American People
He doesn’t care about other people, “he cares about one person, one person only, the person he sees in the mirror when he wakes up in the morning,” he continued.
We Nominate a Fool Like This Again
“As a Republican Party, we cannot once again nominate a fool like this to be our nominee and get him anywhere near the presidency of the United States,” he added.
The Stakes Are High
Christie declared, making it clear that he believes the stakes are high and that the role of the American presidency is of critical significance not only to the nation but also to the entire world.
No Business Being the President
Christie concluded his critique with a resolute declaration, saying “Having a fool like Donald Trump who would make those comments in the tone that he made them is proving to folks that he has no business being president of the United States.”
