MVUSD’s policy takes inspiration from the Chino Valley Unified School District’s (CVUSD) policy, which similarly mandates staff to inform parents if their child identifies as transgender.

The MVUSD policy’s approval was met with cheers and applause from attendees who remained for the policy discussion following the public comments.

Trustee Nick Pardue said, “I think the main thing is that parents’ voices are beginning to be heard in California. And I think that’s really the important story here.”

With the policy now in place, the responsibility for enforcement rests with school administrators.

While some concerns have been raised about potential legal challenges and activist teachers’ resistance, Pardue confidently asserted that the policy aligns with the constitutional rights of parents and the broader legal framework.

He said, “I think administrators and the vast majority of teachers really want to work with parents as well. I think everybody comes up that way. But there are a number of activist teachers that push back.”
Outing Transgender Kids to Their Parents

One Twitter user wrote, “Outing a transgender kid is no different from outing a gay kid! If the kid is not comfortable telling their parents there is a reason and usually is because of negative attitudes expressed about transgender people.”

Another User wrote, “As parents should be. If a teacher or school administrator does not, they should be put in jail. Enough of this Pride agenda [jargon] and hiding things from parents.”
