A year ago, they were involved in a car accident where the BF was driving and found to be 100% at fault.
She’s Had a Long Road
While the boyfriend escaped unharmed, OP suffered a broken back.
She was in a back brace for months and has been undergoing physical therapy in the months since.

During her recovery, OP has focused on her fitness more than ever before, spending countless hours on gym workouts and building up a running routine.

It Was Perfect Timing
About a month ago, OP found out there was a big 10k race taking place on the one-year anniversary of the accident. It was being held in a mountain town about 3 hours away.

OP thought that race would be a positive way to spend the day and celebrate her recovery.
She suggested the idea to her boyfriend, their two best friends, and their partners, and everyone agreed it would be a grand occasion.

The plan was for OP and her group to run the race on Saturday morning, then spend the rest of the weekend exploring the town.
He Has a New Team
Recently, though, OP’s boyfriend started a new job working remotely. He hasn’t met his coworkers, but the team is getting together in San Francisco the Monday after the 10K trip.
He Would Pull Double Duty
OP and her boyfriend knew about the San Fran trip before they planned their weekend getaway, and the BF was planning to do both.
His Schedule Got Even Tighter
But then the boyfriend’s boss called to tell him that the company had booked tickets for a Giants game on Sunday before their Monday meeting. That overlapped with OP’s big trip.
He Canceled on Her
OP’s boyfriend came to her and told her that he wouldn’t be able to go on the trip to the mountain town because he needed to be in San Francisco on Sunday.
She Gave Him Options
OP was devastated by this news, but she tried to make it all work anyway.
