A successful woman divided Redditors after she told her twin sister she should have gone to college if she wanted a better life. Sometimes, delayed gratification really pays off. Here is the full story.
They Had Options
OP is a 33-year-old woman who has a twin sister. They grew up in a country where arranged marriages are an option.
It Was a Fallback
Basically, OP and her sister were free to date. But if things didn’t work out, they could ask their parents to help find a husband.
She Knew What She Wanted
And that’s exactly what OP’s sister did right after high school. She always wanted to be a wife and mother, so she asked for an arranged marriage right away.
She Wouldn’t Budge
OP’s parents tried to talk her sister into going to college since she had been the valedictorian of their high school class. But she was having none of it.
She Moved Quickly
So, the parents helped set up OP’s sister with a matchmaker, and she was married a year after graduation.
It’s Not What She’s Used To
OP’s brother-in-law is a teacher who treats her sister like a queen. But he doesn’t make much money, so the twin’s lifestyle has taken a big hit.
She Took a Different Path
Meanwhile, OP went to college and got a degree in cybersecurity. She started working for a big bank after graduation and makes good money.
She Couldn’t Find Love
After college, OP also went out into the dating world on her own. But after 2 years of trying, nothing really clicked for her.
She Asked for Help
So at that point, OP also asked for an arranged marriage.
They’re Rolling In It
As an educated woman with a solid job, OP was a “catch” for different types of men than her twin had been.
She ended up marrying a business owner who makes a lot of money and comes from a rich family.
She Threw a Fit
The sister never liked OP’s new husband, though, and even threw a fit at their wedding.
It’s Super Expensive
Now, both sisters have children, and OP’s daughter will be going to an expensive private school.
The monthly tuition is more than what the sister’s husband makes.
She Thought It Was Ridiculous
When the sister heard about the expensive school, she blew up at OP.
She told her it was ridiculous to pay that much for her kid to go to school.
She Didn’t Think It Was Fair
And OP’s sister was really upset that their kids wouldn’t have the same opportunities in life just because their husbands were from different economic classes.
She’d Had Enough
That was the last straw for OP. She’d had enough of her sister putting her down and making snide remarks about how much money she had.
She Was Just Better
OP told her sister that she had landed a richer husband because she decided to make herself better.
She Was a Good Catch
As a college educated woman with a good job, OP was a much better prospective wife in their culture than her sister was – at least, that was her take.
She Could Have Had More
OP finished up by telling her sister that she could have had a better husband and a better life if she had gone to college, too.
She Stopped Talking
OP’s sister didn’t take her tirade well. She called OP an “elitist a******” and then cut off all contact with her.
She Feels Relieved
Now, OP wonders if maybe she went too far, but she’s happy to be free of her sister’s judgment for a while, at least.
Redditors are divided on their opinions when it comes to this story. Some of them think OP was just telling her sister the truth she needed to hear.
But others think OP is super snobby and enjoys rubbing her sister’s nose in her own success.
