Talking to comedian James Barr at Sky News Australia, Morgan said, “there’s nothing sexual about mushrooms.”
Why?
“My question for all of this is, why? Why are we having some queer celebration of things like mushrooms?” he asked.
23,000 Different Genders
James highlighted studies that identified mushrooms with approximately 23,000 different genders.
Why Can’t We Just Have Straight Plants?
Morgan said, “We’ve just had Pride month, where the entire month was taken up with turning everything LGBTQ … Why can’t we just have straight plants?”
“I just don’t understand why you care,” Barr replied.
A Trump Supporter Joined In
Tomi Lahren, a prominent Trump supporter, joined the conversation, expressing concerns about the increasing complexity of gender identifications.
The Argument
Lahren argued that the LGBTQ+ spectrum was already challenging for many to grasp, and the inclusion of 23,000 genders for mushrooms further complicated matters.
(The “23,000 genders” likely refers to the species Schizophyllum commune, which does in fact have the incredible number of genders. A large number of genders is quite common among fungi, though the differences are not apparent to the naked eye.)

She said “Why does everything have to be about ‘queer this, gay that’? Why is that the only thing that leftists seem to respond to? It’s either race, gender, or climate change.”

Critics argue that Kew Gardens’ Queer Nature event is emblematic of a broader shift towards going woke.
